Ten Things I Learned from Robert Herjavec

You may know him from Dragon’s Den or Sharks Tank or you may not. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a seminar and I have put together a list of things that I think everyone could learn something from. So, without further ado, let’s get started with the list!
- “If you can be the boss of yourself, that’s when you have true wealth.”
It means don’t owe anyone any money. It doesn’t mean you can’t borrow money from other people. If you do borrow, pay it off as fast as you can.
- Everybody lies.
Now, I don’t want to sound like Dr. House but it’s true. People lie because of a million different reasons. There will always be information asymmetry. BUT, it doesn’t mean you have to be mean about it. Remember that people want to be led NOT managed.
- Believe in yourself.
- Find something you’re great at and become world-class at it.
When you have something you’re great at, the money will come to you. Love what you do and continually want to be better at things you do. It’s all about what have you done in the next 24 hours that’s better than the person next to you?
- “Humble-Arrogance”
Stand up for yourself and communicate your thoughts, visions, and values. There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance and it’s called humility.
- Be committed.
It’s not about your failure, but how long it takes for you to get back up again. When you’re young, there is one thing you have that’s called time and you have lots of it. So, keep going!
- Think long-term.
In this world, there will always be uncertainty. Especially in business. You don’t control anything in life except your reaction. Be proactive because things changes all the time.
- Know where you’re going.
Bring a compass. You should always know what your end goal is even though it will constantly change. People often overestimate what you can do in one year but they tend to underestimate what they can achieve in ten years.
- Always have multiple plans.
“Yesterday was a million years ago, tomorrow is a promise, all you have is right now.”
- “Work hard, have fun, be nice, play fair and dream big!” said Robert Herjavec.
Cheers,
Florence
