Three down, one more to go. (Final Exams, I mean) It’s time to get all the big guns out for one last round of war. On a lighter note, I get to go see Itzhak Perlman perform Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at 8 pm at the Orpheum Theatre tomorrow.

This is the time when university students will lock themselves in their dorm rooms or stay as long as possible at the libraries to study for the DREADED final EXAMS!!! And, yes, I am one of them. I had my first exam today and will have three more in the next few days. So, it is unlikely that I will be spending time on my blog. As much as I love writing on it, I have to study or else someone will chase me down and try to kill me (probably not…but…I might get disowned though…I think…).
Cheers,
Florence
Just got back from IMATS Vancouver!!! What can I say, good job for the first ever trade show in Vancouver. Learned a lot!!! Met lots of amazing make-up artists (i.e., Eddie Malter, Kevin-James Bennett, Howard Berger, Charles Porlier, etc.)!!! And, now, back to reality. I need to get back to studying. I might post some notes on the IMATS speaker sessions later.

Fluffier type brushes (Make-up brushes, that is!) will provide you with sheerer wash of colour. Therefore, they tend to be better used for blending colours. Denser type brushes will pack on more colour. Hence, they are, in general, better for placing colours.

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Do not set your goals by what other people deem important.
Only you know what is best for you.
Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart.
Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor for the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life.
Do not give up when you still have something to give.
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Do not be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect, it is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.
Do not be afraid to encounter risks.
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love;
The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly.
Do not dismiss your dreams.
To be without dreams is to be without hope;
To be without hope is to be without purpose.
Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going.
Do not forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.
Do not be afraid to learn.
Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.
Do not use time, or words, carelessly.
Neither can be retrieved.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.
” —AnonymousWhile I believe there is no rule for makeup, there are certainly guidelines for those who are starting with makeup. One of them is “Less is more!” In the world of makeup, I definitely think less is definitely more. When you are planning a look for yourself, pick one area that you want to accentuate. It can be your eyes, lips, or even cheeks. For example, you can pair neutral eyes with red lips or smokey eyes with neutral lips. This will give you a more polished look.

Simple, fast and easy!
Ingredients:
2 lb (about 1 kg) russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
2-4 Tbsp (30-60 ml) butter, melted
3/4 cup (185 ml) warmed milk or half and half
Salt and pepper
Method:
Peel the potatoes, or leave them unpeeled, and cut them into chunks of roughly the same size so that they will cook evenly. Place the potatoes in a large pot and add enough water to cover them by about an inch. Bring to a boil over high heat, then turn the heat down and simmer for 15-20 minutes, until the potatoes are tender when poked with a knife. Smaller chunks will cook faster, so check them early to make sure they don’t become over cooked and mushy.
Drain the potatoes well in a colander. If you haven’t peeled them yet, spear each potato with a fork or grab it with tongs and use a peeler to peel off the skins. Put the potatoes back into the pot and mash them with a potato masher, or press them through a potato ricer or food mill back into the pot. Stir in the melted butter and then gently stir in the milk or cream and salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
Serves 4-6
What to do with the leftovers:
Keep them covered in the fridge for up to 4 days. Mashed potatoes generally don’t freeze well.
Cheers,
Florence
Be loyal to your friends.
Be strong enough to face the world each day.
Be weak enough to know you cannot do everything alone.
Be generous to those who need your help.
Be frugal with that you need yourself.
Be wise enough to know that you do not know everything.
Be foolish enough to believe in miracles.
Be willing to share your joys.
Be willing to share the sorrows of others.
Be a leader when you see a path others have missed.
Be a follower when you are shrouded by the midst of uncertainty.
Be the first to congratulate an opponent who succeeds.
Be the last to criticize a colleague who fails.
Be sure where your next step will fall, so that you will not tumble.
Be sure of your final destination, in case you are going the wrong way.

Hurray!!! This is my 100th post. It’s been a little over three months since I started writing on this blog. I can definitely tell you that it is quickly becoming my ideas and memories bucket. At first, I started this blog to help me improve my writing skill. It is serving its purpose slowly but steadily. As they all say, “One step at a time!” Now, I really enjoy writing posts on this blog even though at the moment I’m pretty sure no one actually reads my blog except me. Anyways, I should probably give myself a pat on the back.
On a random note, why the hell do I get sick when it’s holiday??? Damn, cold!!!
Cheers to my 100th Post,
Florence
Time for another reflection. Can’t believe it’s already April. Yes, the dreaded April!!! For college people it’s time for Final Exams. Yikes!!! Gotta start studying!!! I should be out there enjoying the sunshine and flowers blooming all over the place.
Anyhow, on to the actual self-reflections. Back in January this is what my new year’s resolutions look like:
- Post a blog entry a day
- Read one book a week
- Be more religious on my skin care routine
- Make good grades
- Do exercise and eat healthily
- Be more positive
Progress Report:
- 36 out of 31 days. I should give myself an A++. =P
- I can’t believe I’m still reading The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lax. God, this book seems so long…
- I miss about a couple of nights due to lack of sleep.
- Working on it.
- Exercise has lost its position on my priority list. I’m still eating healthily though.
- Seems to be working these days.
Lesson Learned:
- Olympic withdrawal!!! Hahaha!!! It was kind of funny when everyone got back after two-week spring break and dreading school.
- School is taking it’s toll on me. This is the time when all the professors start to give you more assignments and homework because they are all trying to finish the course material before the final exams.
- I need to take a break!!! Thank God for 4-day weekend!!! (Easter weekend, wohoo!!!)
Cheers,
Florence
